Maya Abdominal Massage
Maya Abdominal Massage at Fertile Ground is performed by Erin Aufdemberge, RMT.
Maya Abdominal Massage is a non-invasive external massage technique.  It addresses the position of the uterus and the problems that can be caused by it being displaced.  These techniques can also help alleviate common digestive complaints.

The uterus is held in place by ligaments.  When stressed or strained, these ligaments can lead to the uterus being mal-positioned.  This can be caused by:
  • Injury to the sacrum or tailbone from a fall, car accidents, etc.
  • Pelvic ligaments that have weakened from overstretching during pregnancy or birth
  • High impact exercise, running on cement surfaces, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects before or during menstruation or too soon after childbirth
  • Chronic muscle spasm around the low back and sacrum
  • Emotional armoring from abuse at anytime in life
  • Time and gravity
  • Past surgeries
  • Weak pelvic floor muscles

Some of the conditions that can be improved by this type of massage include:
  • Painful periods and ovulation
  • Irregular menstrual cycles and ovulation
  • Infertility
  • Endometriosis
  • Bladder or yeast infections
  • Displaced or prolapsed uterus
  • PMS/Depression with menstruation
  • Perimenopause and menopausal symptoms
  • Enhances pregnancy and aids in labor and delivery

When Maya Abdominal Massage is not performed:

  • During menstrual bleeding
  • During the first trimester of pregnancy (other forms of massage are still appropriate)
  • Within the first 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery or the first 3 months after a C-section
  • For a woman using an IUD for birth control
  • If cancer is present or suspected anywhere in the pelvis, or the client is undergoing chemotherapy for this condition
  • Gentle touch only for Hiatal Hernia

Erin is trained in the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage.  The initial session usually takes about two hours.  This allows for enough time to go over your medical history and teach you the self-care technique so you can continue your treatment at home.

Erin has had additional training from the Arvigo Institue in Maya Abdominal Massage for pregnancy and the postpartum period.
